Event: Bristol & West KO Cup

Teams: Swindon Dolphin v Bath University

Venue:  Milton RoadSwindon

Date: Sunday, 13th April 2008

Swindon Dolphin opened their 2008 cup campaign with a convincing victory against Bath University on Sunday – the win was all the more impressive given the fact that the students were awarded a twelve goal advantage under the handicap rules of the competition.  The Milton Road side cut Bath’s lead in half early on and by the mid way point of the match reduced it further to three.  Dolphin then took the lead in the third period despite an indifferent quarter and romped to victory with a good team performance in the final stages.

Major fouls were somewhat on the high side, but excellent defending ensured only a handful of these opportunities were converted by the opposition.  Ten Dolphin players managed to hit the back of the net including Matt James (7), Diogo Montairo (4), David Quinlivan & Andy Hicks (3), and 2 apiece from Darryl Pye & Chris McConnell.  Chris Selby, Andrew Prowse, Ian Brewer and Chris Mason also got on the score sheet.

Afterwards Prowse said “we were very pleased with the commitment from all the players especially after last week’s disappointing result.  We now need to take this form into what will be a tough match against Newton Abbot next week”.
