Date: Sunday 30th September

Venue: Bath University

Event: SW Regional Masters Championships

Swindon Dolphin sent a strong team of swimmers to the South West Regional Masters Championships at Bath University.  The event, which was ideal preparation for the National Championships at the end of October, saw the six-strong Dolphin team collect a total of 22 medals, which included 18 Golds.

Dolphin’s stand out performer was Louise Maynard who, in addition to her four first place finishes, achieved two personal best times, falling agonisingly short of the club record for 50m breaststroke.  Dave Gingell also clocked up two PBs on his way to a personal haul of five medals, including three first places.

Jon Audis reigned supreme in his backstoke and freestyle events and nearly caused the upset of the day, pushing British Champion and team-mate Chris Jones all the way in the 50m breaststroke before finally finishing runner up, one of two breaststroke silver medals for Audis.  Jones completed a clean sweep of the breaststroke events with a massive 4 second victory in the 100m event.  Coaches Andi Manley and Steve Cryer completed the medal haul, with Manley collecting four Golds and Cryer winning the 50m backstroke event.

The team’s performance also elevated them to second in the Masters Decathlon event, with this month’s National Championships a great opportunity to close on leader’s Haywards Heath ASC.
