Swindon Dolphin’s successful Swim Channel received a boost last week with a further nine teachers achieving Level Two qualification. Dolphin now have 25 fully qualified teachers, demonstrating the club’s commitment to improving the quality of its poolside teaching and coaching staff, and increasing the club’s ability to deal with the rapidly growing influx of new swimmers.

Swim Channel is Swindon Dolphin’s ‘Learn to Swim’ programme, providing structured lessons within the framework of the National Plan for Teaching Swimming. Lessons are delivered by ASA qualified and registered swimming teachers.
The teaching qualifications are set by the Amateur Swimming Association of Great Britain and candidates learn the skills required over a three month period.
Steven Cryer, Swimming Development Officer, is pleased with the results. “This is a big step towards our objective of forty poolside helpers. We have introduced a shadowing programme so prospective teachers can learn from the more experienced coaches and we have high hopes of this scheme.”
The new teachers are Lucy McKenzie, Danni Shaw, Jodie West, Andy Waite, Mandie Thoburn, Jacki Gardo, Gary Southern, Tad Wasielewski and Anthony Clark.
The scheme is also giving an opportunity for swimmers to become involved in teaching and many of the club’s teenagers are active in developing the youngsters in Swim Channel.
